SBS 2003 to SBS 2008 Migration question - enabling mobile access

Saturday, 11 July 2009 16:46 by Beatrice
Today I thought I throw out a question that will be part of the 70-653 exam preparation session I will present at the Microsoft World Partner Conference (WPC) 2009. There is only one correct answer.

During the migration from Windows SBS 2003 to Windows SBS 2008 you must run several migration wizards to perform migration tasks. After you run the Internet Address Management Wizard, Outlook Web Access is no longer available to mobile users. How can mobile access be re-enabled? On the SBS 2008 server you should:

  • Launch the Mobile Users Group Migration Task
  • Launch the DNS Forwarders Migration Task
  • Launch the Exchange Mailboxes and Settings Task

I'll post the answer next Wednesday. (or Thursday) Until then, happy searching!

It's been three weeks and nobody took a stab at this one, lol. The answer is:

Launch the Exchange Mailboxes and Settings Task

Reason being for this answer is that the Internet Address Management Wizard changes the URL used by Outlook Web Access to https://DomainName/owa (this is a Exchange Server 2007 default). Prior in OWA under SBS 2003 (using Exchange 2003) the URL was set to https://DomainName/exchange. Therefore, you have to run the Exchange Mailboxes and Settings Task to point to the correct Exchange virtual directory. For more information on OWA in E2003 and E2007 see this article at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb885041.aspx

And no worries, you should not get a test question like this during the exam as it doesnt really focus on SBS 2003 or SBS 2008 and is more of an Exchange question. :)

I'm surprised they've used the term 'mobile access'. Outlook Mobile Access (or OMA) has been retired in Exchange 2007, this is really modifying OWA, but it isn't Mobile Access as far as MS are concerned.
